Apple may remove the old familiar USB-A port in the new Mac Mini

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Mac Mini will be Apple’s next device to say goodbye to USB-A.

Apple customers have probably grown accustomed to seeing the familiar, rectangular USB-A ports replaced by their slimmer USB-C siblings. And while USB-C has its benefits, this change can sometimes leave users confused and scrambling for adapters.

The Mac mini, meanwhile, hasn’t been significantly changed since 2010, but Gurman says that’s going to change this year. The updated model will include Apple’s new M4 chip, as well as five USB-C ports, as well as an Ethernet port, an HDMI connector, and a headphone jack. But there will be no USB-A ports.

Apple has scheduled a “glowtime” press event for September 9, where the company is expected to announce the new iPhone 16. The new Mac lineup may not be announced until later in the autumn.
