What is Chronic Venous Insufficiency?

The function of a human artery is to carry the blood from human heart to the rest of body whereas a vein helps in carrying blood back to the heart but in the whole process of carrying blood from heart to the rest of the body and back to the heart, it is actually the valves that stop the blood from flowing backward. Hence, the well functioning of the valves means the successful execution of the process whereas the troublesome valves could mean the hindrance in the successful execution of the process resulting in the blood flowing backward collecting in legs.

This condition may lead to pain, swelling, cramps, varicose veins and leg ulcers. “It has been found by doctors that the people having a family history of chronic venous insufficiency are more likely to be affected by this complication,” says Irfan Siddiqui, the leading cardiologist of the country.

Causes of Venous Insufficiency:

The Prime cause of venous insufficiency is no doubt blood clotting and varicose veins. Below are some of the other causes that may lead to this condition.

Being Overweight:

If you are overweight then your chances of developing this condition are higher than average-weight people. It has been found by the doctors that excessive weight of the body may hamper the functioning of the valves and hence may hamper the process of easy and smooth blood flow from the human heart to the body and back to the heart. This is why some of the leading cardiologists such as Siddiqui and others advise regular exercise and physical work as it helps in maintaining the weight of the body.

Having A Family History Of The Problem:

If you are having a family history of the problem, then you are more likely to develop the problem than those who have never had any such history.

Have Had Injury, Surgery Or Damage To Your Leg:

If you had damaged your leg due to injury or surgery resulted in blood clotting then you are more likely to develop this condition than others.

Conclusion:

Chronic Venous Insufficiency occurs due to the troublesome functioning of the valves which further results in the blood collecting in legs. Varicose veins are one of its prime causes after blood clotting. Some of its other causes include being overweight, having a family history of the problem, having a sedentary lifestyle and smoking. This is why expert cardiologists such as Irfan Siddiqui and others advocate the idea of maintaining good health habits quitting smoking and embracing exercise and physical workout.
