Every profession contributes to the betterment of society in one way or another. There are enough dedicated professionals in every line of work making the world a better place to live in. While computer and software engineers are contributing by developing highly efficient software and are more into technology, there are an equal number of professionals working as civil engineers who are primarily there to design, plan, execute buildings to create developed, sustainable and rewarding places to live and work. There are enough reasons to be a civil engineer but as per the industry leaders such as Amir Parekh and others, the best part of being a civil engineer is the fact that they never have a dull moment in their profession and always have something to show as their presence at a particular place. Civil engineering has a visible impact on the society. There is a regular demand for competent civil engineers who can tackle the problems erupted because of the population explosion.

Below are some of the main areas of the contribution of civil engineers:

1)  Transport

As the birth rate is rising globally, every transport facility is gradually shrinking. Engineers play an important role in the designing of the rails, roads, flyovers, airports, etc. to cater to the needs of the growing population of the world. As there are more channels of information, various cultures and countries have started sharing their thoughts. With an interest in knowing other cultures, people have started transporting every part of the world. This is why; civil engineers have contributed to strengthen the social fiber of the society. Better transport facilities have led to better connectivity throughout the world. “No place in the world is inaccessible with improved transport facilities,” says Parekh.

2) Infrastructure

With an increase in the population, there is an ever-increasing need for better societies and communities. Civil engineers have contributed to shape the world by providing better infrastructure and creating facilities for communities and cities. It requires a high level of research, planning, and expertise to create the modern-infrastructure.

3) Facilities

The contribution of civil engineering is not limited to transport and infrastructure, it has played a fair share of role in providing better facilities. Civil engineers have contributed a lot by designing the blueprint of ideal hospitals, schools, shopping centers, and universities. The premise of creating better facilities is to cater to the needs of an ever-increasing need of the population. All these facilities are designed in such a way that any untoward incident must be avoided. The instances of stampedes are more likely to happen in the facilities that are poorly designed. On the other hand, a well-designed facility will always be spacious to gather more amounts of people without overlooking the importance of their security.

4) Resources

The success of a modern society depends on the easy and convenient availability of resources. Civil engineers have a tremendous responsibility for shaping the world with their ability to work on bigger and large scale projects and developments across industries. They help to establish sustainable resources to support the growing populations. There is a tremendous contribution of mining, gas, water and electricity resources. If it were not for the dedication of these professionals, we would not have a resourceful and abundant world although much is yet to be done as no feat is final.

Conclusion: Every profession contributes to the betterment of society in one way or another. There are enough dedicated professionals in every line of work making the world a better place to live in. One such line of work is civil engineering that helps in shaping the world by providing better transport, infrastructure, facilities and resources. There are enough reasons to be a civil engineer but as per the industry leaders such as Amir and others, the best part of being a civil engineer is the fact that they never have a dull moment in their profession and always have something to show as their presence at a particular place.
